Yeah, Sorry.

The atrocious negligence. Dear me, the abysmal abandonment of my faithful readers! I’m certain you’re both quite upset. Well, here I am. Back. Ready to share wonderful things with you.

The briefest of updates:

- I’ve now written a short story. It’s been submitted to Esquire’s Short Fiction Contest. I probably won’t get word about my inevitable rejection until December or January. In the mean time, to maintain my sanity against the angst and the wondering, I’ll likely attempt to write another. I’m trying to muster the courage right now to begin. And the routine.
- I’ve had Matt, my cousin Tanner and my sister each come visit over the last few weeks. It’ll be nice to have things calm down here for a few weeks and then I’m of to New York for Leigh’s B-day and Chicago to see NIN at the Aragon ballroom, one weekend after the other in August.
- I’m failing pretty hardcore at being a scholar this summer, but I have been reading fiction w/ aplomb. Got through Cormac McCarthy’s Border Trilogy in like a month or so. That man… oy, the writing and the masculinity and the writing about masculinity. Just started Pride and Prejudice, cuz some chick talked me into it. Pretty delightful, honestly.
- Go see UP! Seriously. Right now. Find the only awesome movie theater in town that is still playing it and go weep with joy and empathy for old-people love. I’m gonna invest in some Pixar movies this Christmas. Those people…whew.
- Fall wardrobe goal? Cross this with this for awesomeness. We’re going traditional, kids.

Some stuff I like and think you should like too:

- There’s a new Sleeping At Last album that just came out called “Storyboards.” It’s BEAUTIFUL. You can buy it on their website for $14 (including shipping!), they’ll ship it to you when it comes out and you can download it right away. Just do it, champ!
- Go see UP! Did I mention that?
- Not that I have a chance with one (or most of them with me) but I do love looking at adorably dressed rich girls. Boston is a bastion for them and thank God.
- I’m having a helluva time finding some that I like, but I really want some sturdy, traditional Oxfords.
- It’s summer. Walk around. Yes, you’ll get sweaty. Drink some water.

C'etait un Rendez-vous

Seriously, if you aren't watching the above video, just stop everything and do it now. Yes, that's Paris. Yes, he's driving much too fast. Yes, it's 1976.

See also: Ronin, a film with Robert Deniro and written by David Mamet. It's got the best car chases of the last 15 years and I think was pretty blatantly inspired by this experimental piece by Claude Lelouch.

Back to Bed

Naps sound so good lately. They never pay off the way I hope they will.

Also, goodbye Michael Jackson. Sorry about how things went for you. You'll always get me on the dance floor, though.
